Southern Sweep

Description

‘Southern Sweep’ is a coastal painting. Combining land and sea, compiled of coastal tones of blue, warm olives earthy browns and soft buttery sunshine hues. Transparent layers are built up to create a coastal seascape that glows under an Australian sun.  A signature piece showcasing Ballard’s unique style called Fragmatism and imagination.

This artwork was inspired by the southern edges of the Mornington Peninsula. She was taken with its steep and sweeping coastlines. Starting off with the winding track to Point Nepean Ballard skilfully combines other elements within the paint, that triggered memories of the area. She wanted to capture that soft bright, light with the smell of gum trees and salty sea breezes.

‘Southern Sweep’ evolved from many layers of escape and discovery. Shapes and colours are fluid, as each view flows into the next. It is a  landscape open to possibilities. Where you can dream of a different destination every time you take a look.
