Description
“Greener Pastures’ is an expressive painting inspired by the studio space Ballard created in while on residency at the Tweed Regional Gallery. Perched overhanging the lush valley paddocks it was a time when the voices of the past seem to speak from the surrounding landscape and nurture her soul. Those wise souls, Margaret Olley the artist, the “big fellow mountain”(Mount Warning/Wollumbin), looking down from the horizon, and her mother (recently passed), seem to be present in the natural surroundings. Together they whispered… ‘keep creating’.
This fertile area is bursting with sweet juicy colour, the air is filled with the scent of lemon myrtle and mangoes. One of the gallery assistants was complaining that ‘green was everywhere’. She was right. But I thought it was the perfect colour for creativity to grow.
This unique artwork celebrates the growth in green and the nurturing qualities a new environment can provide, and that there are always ‘greener pastures’ to be found.
