Description
‘Lessons from the Sunflowers’ is a vibrant still life painting featuring a bouquet of flowers, artist’s brushes and books in golden warm tones. The palette is reminiscent of expressionist Vincent Van Gogh radiant hues painted in the South of France.
One of my favourite facts I love about sunflowers is that they turn their faces to the sun! If you are lucky enough to see a field of them you will witness them all gradually turn to follow that golden globe in the sky. Perhaps that’s what Van Gogh admired about them too? Sculptural in structure, they are the workhorse of flowers, purposeful for their seeds and oil.
I learnt many things from watching sunflowers but the most important was to always look for the light, no matter how dark the room is. Sunflowers carry this light wherever they go.
