Description
‘Marjory’s Sunshine’ is a large fragmented still life interior artwork inspired by Australian Artist Lloyd Rees‘ wife. Blooming with sunshine and golden positivity this painting is a celebration of love and support.
‘I have a lot to thank Marjory Rees for… her never-ending support for Llyod and the heat wave of 1939’. Kristine Ballard
Marjory was Lloyd Rees second wife. She was the driver in the family (Lloyd never drove). While travelling to their regular holiday spot in the Southern Highlands of NSW the family were forced to escape the heat and burgeoning bushfires by steering down the slopes toward the southern coastline in search of alternative accommodation. It was here that Lloyd Rees fell in love with Werri. And it was here that many of his major works were created. Marjory’s love and support contributed greatly in providing Rees a nurturing environment in which he would flourish. She was Rees’ guiding light and would continue to be so for her entire life. Even today, you can feel the warm generosity of her spirit filters through the landscape or sit quietly on a window pane.
